Thoughts on this half-season of South Park

Time flies. It really does. It seems only a few days ago when I posted an entry about the new episodes of South Park, but the half-season is already over.

I'd say this is one of the better half-seasons that we've had. The two-part episode celebrating the 200th episode of South Park was great, as we finally found out the fate of Cartman's father. The episode also made a lot of references to the previous seasons, which made me feel really special for having watched every episode and being a true fan.

New South Park Episode next week!

Let me be the last to observe that we are currently living in a golden age of satire. While citizens in earlier eras had Walter Cronkite and the "CBS Evening News" to help them navigate contentious and confusing matters of public import, more and more of us seem to rely on Jon Stewart and Comedy Central.

From a Batman to The Batman, the legend of the Dark Knight lives on…

I was originally going to write another long review on The Batman, but because some people have been asking me things like “Why won’t Batman just kill the Joker?”

Batman in the 21st century – more action, more gadgets, more villain, more racial diversity

I must say, when I watched the first episode of The Batman, I did not have much hope for the series. What made Batman great, in my opinion, was the integration between the idealism of a superhero and the grittiness of a vigilante. He has no problem operating outside of the law because being a law abiding citizen (pun intended) would only hinder him from his work. He’s not superman, who flies faster than a speeding bullet at the first sign of trouble, and waves the camera after he saves the day. No, sir! Batman is the kind of superhero who makes his appearance in the middle of night, beats the bodyguards unconscious with his bare hands, and then throws you from a 20-story building just to get some information he needs.

If Superman is the good cop, then Batman is definitely the bad cop.

"Chuck" Season 3 came on today....

So the long-awaited season 3 of Chuck finally arrived. And I must say, I'm sadly disappointed. After the end of the second season, I expected a major change, but it seems that the writers have decided to show us the same old Chuck. Yes, he's the Chuck who we know and love... but it just felt like a huge cop out to me.

More importantly, it felt like a sellout. Feel free to disagree with me on this, because I really hope that I'm wrong about this: it seems to me that the guys making Chuck knew the show was coming to an end with season 2. So, in a desperate attempt to keep their show going, they decided to make a huge cliffhanger ending, so that fans would go crazy and shit on ABC for not extending the show. But now that they got their wish, they've bid on more than they can chew. The ending of season 2 begs for a different Chuck Bartowski... but he's still the same old nerd/loser who gets lucky (man, why don't I ever had that kind luck? Where's my super hot spy gf who's gonna rescue me out of my boring life???).

And this thing between Chuck and Sarah is just getting old. C'mon you two, just kiss and make up already. And so is the half naked scene of Yvonne Strahovski. Yes, we know she's really hot, we get it, you've been telling us that since episode 1.

I'll still watch it, but I really hope the writers change it up a bit. This same old Chuck is getting a bit routine. Please, don't make Chuck fall down the road of Heroes! Pretty please?
