Movie un-review

I haven't actually watched any of these movies, so I can't judge -- this is just me sharing my thoughts. But Jay and I haven't posted anything for a long time, so I feel like I should write something. So here goes my pre-thoughts on 2 movies that came out today.

1. The Wolfman
When I saw the trailer in the movie theater, I expected this movie to be able to pull off a RECOMMENDED rating. But according to AO Scott's review from NYTimes, the movie "spins in agnostic limbo, neither fantastical enough to be thrilling nor realistic enough to be genuinely disturbing." So it looks like the movie is probably just a good MEHHH. If I had the time, I'll probably still pay matinee price to watch it in the theater, because it does look like it took a lot of work to make this movie so it deserves to be watched in the theaters. Who knows, with the low expectation I now have of this movie, I'll probably end up enjoying it more.

Note: Jay told me he will watch The Wolfman this weekend, so stay tuned for his review!

2. Valentine's Day
My first reaction to the movie was "omg, this is gonna be bad." But then I saw all those stars in it, and I thought, "hey maybe the movie can be okay after all, I'll give the benefit of the doubt, and see how the critics take this movie."

Well, surprise surprise. Manohla Dargis says the movie is "a disaster: cynically made, barely directed, terribly written" in her review. Combined with an IMDb rating of 5.8 (as of Feb 12th with 728 votes), it looks like this movie is going to be an AVOID AT ALL COST movie.

Note: One of our guest writer has told me that she will watch Valentine's Day this weekend, so hopefully she can write a review about it.

3. There might be 5 movies regarding the twilight saga.
Now I said I have thoughts about two MOVIES, which twilight ISN'T ONE -- it's a piece of shit made purely to cash in on the teenage fangirls. I guess I'm going to find a way to watch it when it comes out so I can have fun talking about how incredibly bad it is.

So that's my 2-cent for today. Remember, I haven't actually watched any of these movies, so DO NOT GET ON MY ASS telling me how wrong I am. So don't go "X, have you even SEEN these movies? You have no idea what you're talking about!" Because my answer will be "no I have not seen the movies, but have you read the first sentence where it clearly states that I haven't watched the movies and am just sharing my thoughts?"

Hmm I'm curious as to why you personally hate Twilight the movie? I have not seen the movies, nor do I have any desire to in the future because the books on which the movies were based were mind-numbingly trite and cliche. So besides the storyline/plot, what did you think the main problem is with the movie?

I have a problem with all the movies that tries to cash in on a popular franchise WITHOUT SLIGHTEST EFFORT IN MAKING A GOOD MOVIE!

Now, I admit it's slightly unfair to pick on Twilight. I could've picked on any of the super popular movies, like Transformers 2: Revenge of The Fallen, Dragonball Evolution (OMFG, DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THAT MOVIE!!!), Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, etc etc.

I just feel that it's kind of cheating, because no matter what they do, they can still make money. Take for example the terrible acting of Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson. Fangirls go crazy for them even though their acting makes me wanna puke. Not to mention Stephanie Meyer's writing style, which has the words "his God-like figure" in almost literally every page.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with cashing in on a franchise IF IT'S A DECENT MOVIE! Some examples of this are the new Startrek movie, Lord of the Rings trilogy, and my all time favorite movie, The Dark Knight.

Even Peter Jackson himself said that movie fans are fed up with the lack of originality.

Apparently the last two twilight movies will have A-list directors. At least that's a good sign (assuming they can find good directors willing to take the job). http://bit.ly/da5YJs

Hm... I don't know. Short of rewriting Stephanie Meyer's whole book from plot to dialogue, I doubt the presence of A list director would change my opinion of it.

In fact, if you remember, we enjoyed the first movie a lot more when it was actually directly badly. At least then, there's a kind of coherent badness to the whole movie.

I think what they need is for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart to get an acting coach.

I can like it a lot better if I actually feel some chemistry protagonist and her vampire lovetoy.
