As we've promised, we finally made an audio review of Sherlock Holmes. Disclaimer: this is our first audio review, so please do not shout or curse too loudly when you're watching it (remember, we can't hear you cursing at us).
Please feel free to give us CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms. Saying "you suck" doesn't really help us in making it any better. We are still trying to find ways to improves ourselves, so please, if you have an idea, let us know.
Thank you for listening to us!
Best,
X and Jay

The video review wasn't bad and I actually enjoyed listening to you guys weirdly enough (then again, I'm looking at images of cadaver bones). First off, if you can make the volume louder and refrain from coughing, my ears will be grateful because your coughs come through a lot louder (and more jarring) than your voices.
Overall, I like that the review is your opinion but you should definitely be more straightforward with your rating. Even if you're not sure for whatever reason, you can explain how you're not sure but stand by your rating confidently at the get go. Also, when you're giving a rating, the rating is more substantial when you present it in context. So when you say the movie is a "waste of time", you probably mean that it's not the best movie to see if I want to see a quality movie or an artistic movie. But if I do want to waste time and turn my brain off, this movie is probably perfect for the occasion. I kind of got the feeling from what you said but it's nice if you spell it out more clearly.
Ok, moving on. I agree with you that it should be a movie about mystery since it is Sherlock Holmes. But I feel like you can't base the movie just on the title or what it "should" be about. We'd all like to know how Sherlock thought or to peek into his sexual tensions with Ms. Adler, but I think the film was produced for a different reason--to provide entertainment in terms of action. Like based on the previews, all you see is sex, womanizing, and action. There is no mystery being sold. So I don't blame them for not delivering as much on the part of mystery. And I think this review missed out a little on that perspective, specifically what the producers were trying to do (which isn't always to produce a nice movie). That isn't to say that the rest of what you said isn't valued. =)
Anyways, that's really all I had to say. And please don't bash me since I hope I just offered constructive criticism. But if I didn't, this will be my first and final post. Ok, back to studying the human body. =( Keep working at it you guys. =)
First off thanks very much for taking time out to write that long comment. We definitely value your opinion and hope this is not your last post.
Definitely agree with what you said about the volume and coughing... As we become more proficient we will be editing the podcasts to get rid of alot of the noise and enhance the technical qualities, please stay tuned.
Your point on providing context for the rating is also well taken, will incorporate that in future reviews.
I agree that this movie didn't try to market itself as a mystery thriller, and was upfront about it being an action movie. I was fine with the fight scenes and the comedy. I thought there were several quite good performances by RDJ and Jude Law, and even Mark Strong as the villain.
My problem is that it tried to be both an action movie and a Sherlock Holmes mystery, and wound up not being great at either. It would have been far better if Guy Ritchie just totally sold out to make it all action and character focused. Instead he tried to force it into the mold of a mystery-detective story that dominated most of the plot, and ended up being pretty boring and lame.
As for Irene Adler, I'm not too familiar with who she should be. But I hate typical Hollywood action movie portrayal of women as useless damsels in distress, so that's a personal thing.
In the end, I agree with most of your points. The movie did have some entertainment value and pretty good acting, so worth a viewing on Netflix or as a popcorn flick on movie night under the blankets...
Thanks again for your support!
