So the long-awaited season 3 of Chuck finally arrived. And I must say, I'm sadly disappointed. After the end of the second season, I expected a major change, but it seems that the writers have decided to show us the same old Chuck. Yes, he's the Chuck who we know and love... but it just felt like a huge cop out to me.
More importantly, it felt like a sellout. Feel free to disagree with me on this, because I really hope that I'm wrong about this: it seems to me that the guys making Chuck knew the show was coming to an end with season 2. So, in a desperate attempt to keep their show going, they decided to make a huge cliffhanger ending, so that fans would go crazy and shit on ABC for not extending the show. But now that they got their wish, they've bid on more than they can chew. The ending of season 2 begs for a different Chuck Bartowski... but he's still the same old nerd/loser who gets lucky (man, why don't I ever had that kind luck? Where's my super hot spy gf who's gonna rescue me out of my boring life???).
And this thing between Chuck and Sarah is just getting old. C'mon you two, just kiss and make up already. And so is the half naked scene of Yvonne Strahovski. Yes, we know she's really hot, we get it, you've been telling us that since episode 1.
I'll still watch it, but I really hope the writers change it up a bit. This same old Chuck is getting a bit routine. Please, don't make Chuck fall down the road of Heroes! Pretty please?

God damnit! Get your facts straight. Chuck is from NBC.
yeah bro, proof reading...
i bet the first comment was val haha
I'm sorry, I stand corrected.
But what I said still applies though...
First, the creators and executive producers Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak had consistently and repeatedly stated that "Chuck" would be taking on a new direction if the show were to come back for a 3rd season. They had said this even before the show was on the edge of getting canceled. So I do not think that the writers knew the show was coming to an end and used the cliffhanger as a ploy to bring the show back. Actually, I think it's a pretty natural progression for Chuck's character to willingly participate in the spy world. In fact, I think it's the only way the show can evolve and not recycle the same plot, ie Chuck yearning for a normal life with the girl of his dreams and always looking for a way out. Making Chuck a legitimate spy/agent is a good way of keeping the basic premise of the show, otherwise what's the point of watching him if he got what he wanted and quit going on missions?
That brings me to my second point. You wrote that Chuck is "still the same old nerd/loser who gets lucky..." but I strongly disagree with that. For most of the past two seasons, he always needed Sarah or Casey to spur him on, or even to goad him into doing spy-related things but this season, he is the one begging to be included on missions after realizing his gifts can actually make the world a better place. Dude, he even turned down the chance to be with Sarah at the train station for the greater good! Now, that's not the marking of a loser.
Thirdly, I will agree with you that the relationship took too much screen time, especially in the second episode. I was annoyed that Chuck insisted on talking to Sarah about his "feelings" during the mission. It's not like it was a life-and-death situation; he could've waited til the end of the mission before spilling his guts.
I also have a bone to pick with the writers: NOT ENOUGH COMEDY!! I want more Jeff and Lester aka Jeffster! Now that Emmit is gone (RIP dude, you were hilarious), we need to see more of the Buy More people (besides Morgan) to balance out the rather dark/serious aspect of the show.
BTW, I did not write the first comment.
