Many readers have suggested ways to improve our rating system. One of the most frequent objections is that people aren't able to easily understand what each of the ratings mean. Even after posting the explanation for each rating, legitimate concerns persisted about people needing to read a long essay in order to understand our movie reviews, and the effect that has on attracting new readers. SO in order to give readers a more intuitive understanding, we have changed the names of our ratings (with minimal changes in what kind of movies belong in each category):
CONTENDER --> MUST SEE
BLOCKBUSTER --> RECOMMENDED
WASTE OF TIME --> MEHHH
SELLOUT --> AVOID AT ALL COST
How do you guys feel about the new ratings? Please share your thoughts.

That definitely makes things clearer. But how is this different from the despised star system again?
Because there are explanations for each category, and a set interpretation for what each rating means, whereas the star system is completely ambiguous.
All ratings systems will have its flaws, and while Jay has a point that it's better than a simple star system because the explanation comes with the rating, Andy's right in that in principle it is still a rating from 1-4, and does nothing to remove the simplifications made to set this kind of ranking.
